Persistent rain brought the Qualifier 1 clash between Madurai Panthers and Trichy Grand Cholas to an early end at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Madurai had chosen to bowl first and made an immediate breakthrough when Gurjapneet Singh dismissed Trichy captain Suresh Kumar with the first delivery. The match was later reduced to 13 overs per side, but another spell of heavy rain prevented any further play.
With the game abandoned, the Panthers advanced to the TNPL 2026 final by virtue of finishing at the top of the league-stage table. Their consistency across the season made them the first side to book a place in the title match.
Captain Anirudh Sita Ram praised the team’s collective effort and said the Panthers hoped to bring the trophy back to Madurai.
